A question of balance

by Health Patio

I attended a brunch with a free lecture afterwards, and the topic was stress. (Babysitting was provided, whew!) Stress was presented as a common condition and, perhaps for some, a way of life. However, it wasn’t presented as normal or healthy. A normal amount of pressure in life areas such as physical, social, financial or other areas should be handled okay. It is an individual judgment call — how much is too much?

The important part is to find balance, even if you need to ask for help.

Having it too easy has its potential to become stressful as the hours and days of life turn to ennui or even clinical depression for some people.

A question of balance, Moody Blues
I love being a mom and having a big family. Yes, there are points in time that I also struggle to find balance. When I have difficulty getting the basics taken care of on a daily basis, on a custodial and psychosocial level, e.g. the dishes are overflowing, the floor needs to be mopped up, we ran out of milk, I realize that these are symptoms of imbalance. Then I know it’s when to get help such as with the following conversation:

My ADHD is actually an asset as a mom of 5 kids, however, and more often than not I tap into that aspect of my brain to get it all done. I said this to another mom at morning preschool drop off and she thought it was hilarious- and so true! I’m like, “I finally found something I’m good at!” and she says, “Me, too!” It was a fun, balancing moment right there.
